In What Hemisphere Do You Live?

One way you can describe the location of your home is to decide in which hemisphere you live. You may already know that there are special lines put on the globe that divide the world into hemispheres, or half spheres.

The first special marker line is the equator. (Locate the equator on the globe to your right.) Everything north of the equator is in the Northern Hemisphere, and everything south of the equator is in the Southern Hemisphere. Did you notice that the equator is labeled 0 degrees? The equator is used as a beginning point to measure the number of degrees north or the number of degrees south of the equator where something (such as your home) is located.

The equator is also referred to as a latitude line.

The equator, at 0 degrees latitude, divides the globe into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. In which hemisphere do you live?
